Shortcuts To Creating An eBook

Dread the idea of trying to write your own ebook?

Did you know there’s an easy way to create one? In fact there's more than one method.

Forget the pain of wracking your brain as you stare at an empty screen - the days of not knowing what the heck to write can be a thing of the past. Here's how to make that happen:

1. We talked about speed writing in our earlier post on web copywriting. You can use a similar approach to writing an ebook. Jim Edwards and Joe Vitale put together a really comprehensive guide called How to Write and Publish Your Own eBook... in as Little as 7 Days. Featuring 207 pages of instructions and bonus interviews, it's an excellent resource you can follow step by step.

2. Another book that offers a different but equally effective approach is Steve Manning's How To Write A Book Fast (In 14 Days Or Less). This 156-page manual will show you how to get a book published offline as well as online, with tips on how to get an agent and publisher. The principles apply for any written product, and are so simple you can start using them immediately.

3. If you've made up your mind you never want to learn this stuff, outsourcing is the way to go. You can hire a freelance writer who actually loves writing (yes, it takes all kinds) and they'll create an ebook to your specifications.

You'll need to do a little research first so you're clear on what you want. Then be sure you give them straightforward instructions and set up a payment installment plan. If the product isn't up to your standards by the 20-page mark (or whatever you decide is the completion of the first phase), you can pay them to date and cancel the rest of the agreement.

Some of the more popular web sites for finding freelancers are:

  1. www.elance.com
  2. www.rentacoder.com
  3. www.freelanceworkexchange.com
  4. www.freelancewriting.com
  5. www.getafreelancer.com
  6. www.guru.com
  7. www.workaholicsforhire.com
  8. www.writerlance.com

Costs run anywhere from $200 to $800 for an ebook, so state upfront how much you're willing to pay.

So if you've been procrastinating about creating your first ebook, commit to getting it started now and choose the most appealing option. The sooner it's done, the sooner you'll start making money.

Till next time,

Marguerite Bonenville
